I have lived and worked in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a composer, teacher and accompanist since 1981, with a career focus on dance accompaniment and composing for dance.
Over the years, I have tried to maintain a degree of artistic integrity while keeping up with the change that has taken place in music and dance. I now use electronic musical instruments (Macbook Pro as well as other synthesizers) as well as the piano to create a wide palette of sounds and textures for dancers to move through. This can range from very baroque and classical sounding music to percussion-driven textures as well as atmospheric soundscapes that create a backdrop/interactive environment for movement experimentation and creation.
During this time, I have worked as accompanist and composer at The School at Jacob’s Pillow, the University of the Arts, the Rock School of Dance Education and the Gwendolyn Bye Dance Center. In addition, I have worked as an accompanist at Temple University and Susan Hess Modern Dance. Career highlights have included choreographer/composer collaborations with such artists as Milton Myers, Thang Dao, Marguerite Donlon, Roni Koresh, Beth Hirschaut-Iguchi, Manfred Fischbeck, Brian Sanders and Gwendolyn Bye.
In 1995, I was asked to compose music for two videos on Lester Horton technique: The Dance Technique of Lester Horton: Intermediate Level and the Dance Technique of Lester Horton: Advanced Level. I did this for Dance Spotlight under the direction of Ana Marie Forsythe and Marjorie Perces.
I have written music for short independent films (“Lemonade” and “Losing Joey,” written and produced by Steve Oskie and directed by Anthony Pascucci). In 2009 I was commissioned by Jim McGuire of Wyoming Valley Health Care System to compose music for their Medical Moments Series. Most recently, I have been commissioned by world-renowned sculptor Andrew Devries to write a score for an upcoming film about his creative process.
